Optimum Sweep Auger - Walking

Optimum Grain Silos and Augers Pty Ltd manufacture a range of heavy-duty silo unloading augers at their facility in Young NSW.

We manufacture a number of different types distinguished by the drive method.

These are as below.

  • Full Electrical Drive. This entails separate drive motors for the main underfloor auger and the sweep auger.

  • PTO Hydraulic Drive. This entails using the PTO system on a tractor to drive the main unloading auger and the remote tractor hydraulics to drive the sweep auger.

  • Full Hydraulic Drive. This System utilises the remote hydraulic systems on modern tractors. The main unloading auger is driven by one of the remote circuits and the sweep auger is driven by a second remote circuit. We require the specifications of the proposed drive tractor for this system to enable us to tailor the design to the tractor hydraulic outputs.

We manufacture two different sized systems as standard models and also two different formats for both sizes. We manufacture cast in models and also models which fit into precast concrete trenches in the silo foundation.

The two diameters which we manufacture are as below

  • 273 mm OD in floor auger with 324 mm OD inclined section. The output of this model is up to 120 TPH wheat

  • 324 mm OD in floor auger with 406 mm OD inclined section. The output of this model is up to 200 TPH wheat

Manufacturing Materials

We use quality materials in the manufacture of our range of unloading augers. The augers are manufactured from structural pipe with wall thicknesses of 4.8 mm and 6.4 mm. This is much thicker than other silo unloaders on the market. We also use machined shafts which are sized for years of reliable service.

Many steel components are precision laser cut to ensure excellent fit when assembled. We use a in house design which has tabs and slots in the steel components so that they fit together in exactly the correct position to ensure reliable service. We have a high capacity brake press which forms the parts with precision. We also use high quality bearings, hydraulic components and electric motors.

We have custom made parts formed from polyurethane and other engineering plastics which are durable for long life.

Our augers are totally designed and developed in house at our facilities in Young.

Innovative design features

  • Our sweep augers have a unique walking advance system which means the sweeps will advance into the grain without needing any assistance. This is a safety advantage as it is not necessary to enter the silo whilst the unloading auger and or sweep are operating. In fact, we place a sign on the silo door that says the silo must not be entered whilst the unloading auger and sweep are operating.

  • Most drive arrangements are shaft mounted with torque arm arrangement which eliminates troublesome couplings and shaft alignment issues.

  • Our hydraulic sweep drives are supplied via hydraulic hoses which are routed through an RHS steel duct. This enables hoses to be replaced should a problem occur, unlike some units which have hydraulic pipes cast into concrete which cannot be repaired without costly civil works.

  • All intake and outlet areas have heavy sectional flighting fitted for long term reliability.
